Hi

Lifetime wish is for me to travel down the Amazon from Iquitos to Manaus then onwards towards probably Belem.

Do you go as far as Manaus. there will be two of us and we are looking to organise a trip jan/feb 2013.

Cheers Glen

3 Captain Bill March 13, 2012 at 1:33 pm

Hello Glenis Thanks for contacting me. No Riverboats based in Iquitos can currently go beyond the Peruvian border. You must change boats at the border of Peru and Brazil, from Santa Rosa to Tabatinga.
Best of luck on your dream journey.
Bill

Hi Bill

Could I check whether I can book a trip for two on 13 – 16 June? Our flight back to London departs at 19:05 from Lima on 16 June. Could I check the rates you are going to charge for this. We hope to make to the Pacaya-Samiria reserve.

Thanks
Helen

Do you have a cruise package for 2 adults and 3 children ages 9, 10 and 14 some where between December 20, 2012 and January 2, 2013?

8 Brenda Burnell September 24, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Hi Bill
I need information on a trip in your area in Sept. 2013. Right now there is 10 adults in our group might go to 12. We are open to anything. We all like adventure and love seeing different thinks. We do not want to be with a group. We want to have flexibility and do what my family wants. We move fast and can see a lot. What do you have to offer for my family?
Cheers, Brenda Burnell

9 Rachelle Davis October 1, 2012 at 12:09 pm

Hello. My husband and I are very grateful to have found your web sight online. We are very interested in your day retreat. We also have a few questions about long term stay in Iquitos!

We currently live in the US, Salt Lake City Utah.
It is our intention and desire to do our part to help heal people in the world as healers and energy work but we also realize we must be healed and transformed ourselves first. This is what attracts us to the Amazon, the healing work and learning that can be done.

My husband is a hard working painter. Also through his learning, being the student of a medicine man, he has helped many loved ones along the way find some peace or deeper understanding in there lives. He truly wants to unleash his gifts and full potential to help heal and bring balance and love to people. I’m a Doula which is a profesional women that assists other women educationally, physically and emotionally in there journey of pregnancy, labor, birth and post pardom. I want to do all I can to learn and heal so that I can use those tools to further extend my love to women as a Doula and someday become a midwife.

In the past few weeks Ive had a very strong prompting to support my husband and help him realize his dream of going to Peru to heal and learn. We have both felt strongly that we should take this opportunity to sell and leave what little we have behind and move together with our three young children (ages 2months, 1year and 2years) to Peru for a year (hopefully starting the beginning of January, but we are flexible). Our budget and resources are limited but we have hope that the right situations will be shown to us if we just take this huge leap of faith.

We are wondering how much the apartment for rent above your business cost and if there is any availability? If not would you possibly be able to point us in the right direction as far as finding living accommodations and a fair price. We are also very interested in your touring! We would love and NEED the help of someone who knows so much about living in Iquitos when we arrive. We would like to do one of your tours if it would help us understand how to go about daily life, the market, etc when we arrive. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Sincerely, Rachelle and Sean Davis.

Kind regards,

Hi James, depending on the article, I would probably publish it on this Captain’s Blog and Mike Collis could pick it up from here. Go to my contact page to submit your article by email.

I would like to know if there would be a chance of getting a short fishing trip (2days or so) on or about the 10 th of December 2012? My trip is open ended so I could go later in the week. I have a trip planed for 12/22/12 out of Chile.

14 Tara Dunlop December 16, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Hello,

I’m looking to take a 3 day cruise upriver to Nauta from February 9th to the 11th, 2013.

Could you please let me know what might be available.

Many thanks!

15 Hannah McHugh December 19, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Hello Captain Bill

I’ve enjoyed reading some of your posts and guest posts and I wondered if you could provide some information as I’m travelling to the area from Lima over the next couple of weeks.

I wonder if you’d be able to tell me how the Christmas and New Year period affects the river services between Yurimaguas and Iquitos. I wonder if it’ll mean much longer waits for boats to fill up and leave. I notice that your own routes aren’t running over this period, is that an indicator of river life in general?

I’d be grateful for any information you could give,

Kind regards and seasonal wishes,

Hannah McHugh

22 Ann February 25, 2013 at 11:39 pm

A fellow traveler and I will be in Peru in mid Sept. ’13. We’re interested in doing a 3 to 4 day cruise with you. What are your suggestions? and cost? Thanks.

23 Captain Bill February 26, 2013 at 6:46 pm

Hello Ann, Thanks for getting in touch with me. I can help. Mid September is open for you in the Dawn on the Amazon expedition boat, for a 3 or 4 day cruise.

Your rate is $199 per person per day X 4 days = $796 per person X 2 passengers = $1,592.

I will send you an email after this comment so we can work out the details together.

My best,
Bill

24 Deb Coleman March 23, 2013 at 2:25 am

Hi Bill,

We are looking at doing a 3 day amazon cruise in September from around 16th September. I have read great reviews on trip advsisor but not sure what is on offer for 3 days. Could you please let me know what cruises/boats are available and the prices. We are very flexible and prefer to experience things than just sit back and look.
Many thanks
Deb

25 Captain Bill March 25, 2013 at 10:10 am

Hi Deb, Thanks for getting in touch with me. Our schedule is open for the Dawn on the Amazon expedition boat “around 16th September” for a 3 day cruise. The best 3 day cruise in the upper Amazon during the low water season of September is up the Nanay River into Allpahuyao Mishana National Reserve. You can visit villages, hike jungle trails, walk on white sand bars, wade and swim in the river, go fishing, look for tropical birds, wildlife, pink dolphins and more. I will send you and email and we can correspond about the details.

My best,
Bill

26 Don Gist March 26, 2013 at 12:07 am

Bill, we are working on a group situation for next summer, family members and close friends, 6-10, not sure yet, June or July 2014. I know this is a bit early, but I’d like to have an idea of the cost of a 3-5 day Amazon river tour, all in Peruvian waters to see as much as possible. A fairly nice vessel would be good, most of us are over 50, but still kicking, kayakers and canoists.

Thanks, Don Gist

27 Captain Bill March 26, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Hi Don, Thanks for getting in touch with me. Planning ahead is a good thing and I can help. I will send you an email with my suggestions. I know you will have questions. Part of my job is to have good answers.

My best,
Bill

28 N.Y. April 23, 2013 at 9:34 pm

Hi Bill! I am interested in speaking with you regarding your ability to cater to a large group (anywhere from 15-30) on an annual basis – perhaps multiple times a year (x 3-4). I understand there is a limit to the number of guests allowed on the boat at one time – we are flexible with whatever arrangement you may have to offer. We may also be interested in staying in your Lodge.

Please contact me via email. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time!

29 Captain Bill April 24, 2013 at 11:44 am

Hi N.Y., Thanks for getting in touch with me. I look forward to working with you. I will send you an email today with some suggestions, and we can work out the details in future emails.

My best,
Bill

30 Jocelyn Silver June 19, 2013 at 11:50 am

Hello Bill,
I will be travelling to Peru in November with 3 or 4 more people and we are interested in a 3 or 4 day cruise departing around Nov 19. Can you advise what is available and what the cost would be. I like what you suggested to Deb for her September trip.
Cheers
Jocelyn

31 Captain Bill June 22, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Hello Jocelyn, Thanks for getting in touch with me. My schedule is open in Dawn on the Amazon expedition style boat from November 19 – 22, 4 days, in Dawn on the Amazon into Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve, similar to what I proposed for Deb, “up the Nanay River into Allpahuyao Mishana National Reserve. You can visit villages, hike jungle trails, walk on white sand bars, wade and swim in the river, go fishing, look for tropical birds, wildlife, pink dolphins and more…”

Your rate depends on how many in your group. With 5 passengers total, $169 per person per day X 4 days = $676 per passenger…with 4 passengers $179 per person X 4 days = $716 per passenger.

I will send you an email, we can correspond about the details.

My best,
Bill

32 Kim Robbins August 30, 2013 at 4:28 pm

I’m interested in a 3 night cruise for 3-4 people from Iquitos up the amazon. We will be there in mid January around the 13th or 14th but dates around that time are somewhat flexible.

Looking for options and pricing

33 Captain Bill September 3, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Hello Kim, Thank you for getting in touch with me. I can help arrange your cruise up the Amazon River. You could schedule a four day/3 night cruise in our Dawn on the Amazon expedition style boat from January 14 – 17, 4 days. There is 2 days flexibility earlier or later.

Your rate will depend on how many passengers come in your group. If there are 3 passengers your rate is $189 per person per day X 4 days = $756 per passenger. If there are 4 in your group the price is $179 per person per day X 4 days = $716 per passenger.

I am going to send you an email as soon as I submit this reply to your comment request. We can work out the details together in future emails.

My best,
Bill

34 Ken Gudmundsen September 12, 2013 at 8:39 am

Hi Bill,
We are 2 adults and 2 children (aged 13, 14)
Arrive in Iquitos on Monday 21 October by plane from Tarapoto.
and leave by plane to Lima on Monday 28 October,
So we have 6 full days in Iquitos; (and half-days on the plane-days)
I have read your website with interest
I was wondering if we could do say 4 days with your company,
( and 2 days in the town of Iquitos.)
= Perhaps 2 days in the Jungle village and 2 days on a boat
I like photography; My partner likes relaxing;
the children should be quite open to whatever but butterflies and dolphins sound good.
Anyway, I would be very grateful for your suggestions about trips
and even about where to stay in Iquitos if possible for the other 2 days
many thanks
Ken G

35 Captain Bill September 12, 2013 at 1:53 pm

Hi Ken, Thanks for getting in touch with me. I can help arrange your families Amazon adventure. I have a 3 day fly fishing cruise scheduled for October 23 – 25, which is in the way of your 2 day boat cruise.

We can arrange 3 days at our Jungle Cabin and a boat ride for one day trip to the Butterfly Farm, looking for pink dolphins.

Your rate for the Jungle Cabin is $89.50 per person per day.

$89.50 X 3 days = $268.50 per person X 4 guests = $1,074

Your rate for your day trip to the Butterfly Farm and boat ride is $65 per person X 4 passengers = $260

$1,074 + $260 = $1,334

I am going to send you an email with more details as soon as I submit this reply.

My best,
Bill

38 Mark Powell November 23, 2013 at 1:43 am

I will be in Peru from the 18th and will be looking to be on a cruise for 5 days. I am open for 3 weeks and was hoping for prices and dates etc?

Thank you

39 Captain Bill November 23, 2013 at 10:37 pm

Hi Mark, Thanks for getting in touch with me. I assume you are referring to December 18, and that you are traveling solo? There is a 4 days Christmas Cruise on the Selva Viva cabin boat from December 23 – 26 with the special price of $840. Then we have a 4 day cruise on the Selva Viva for $1,432. We have a 2 day cruise on Dawn on the Amazon from December 23 – 24 for $378.

My best,
Bill

40 Robin Wilcox November 27, 2013 at 8:50 pm

Dear Bill,
I’m confused about your tours and pricing. My husband and I have our hearts set on cruising on the Amazon River…and plenty of tours seem to go up into the preserve or rivers that flow into the actual Amazon, which appears to start about 100km east of Iquitos. We are not looking for a luxury cruise – we don’t like crowds or lots of frills, on the other hand, I’m not planning to camp out! You advertise a pretty inexpensive Amazon 1 or 2 day experience, but it appears that it’s to a lodge.
Can you please describe the type of 3-4 or even 5 day Amazon River cruise and how much it would cost? We would be coming sometime in mid to early May…I see a number of your cruises are already booked. Also, I would like to know if that time period is horrible – rain and flood wise.
Thank you,

Robin

41 Captain Bill December 1, 2013 at 2:08 pm

Dear Robin, Thanks for getting in touch with me about your Amazon River cruise. We create custom cruises based on what you want, combined with what we have available. We provide 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, and more days of cruises on the Amazon River and it’s tributaries. On any given 4 or 5 day cruise, I think the best amount of time is a day and a half on the Amazon River and two and a half or three and a half days on the smaller tributaries to better understand the water shed and life on the rivers, but if you would like to spend more time on the Amazon River, of course we will be happy to provide what you want.

The Amazon River is huge and interesting from the stand point of human activity. There are usually lots of interesting boats of all sizes and many villages and individual houses along the banks. Most trees will be food source trees, such as mangos, jungle apples, coconut, pijuayo and aguaje palms, or medicinal plants and trees, selected for their usefulness or survival value. You will see very little wildlife, and limited birdwatching, but it is certainly interesting for a day or two.

We like to go upstream on the Amazon River, then turn off on to a smaller river, follow it upstream and into a protected community reserve. It is not like a national park in North America. You may not see another traveler for days, only the locals in small remote villages, men fishing from dugout canoes, or women washing laundry in the river. The best chance to see big trees and vines, wildlife, and great birdwatching is in the protected areas

So, I recommend a combination of cruising upstream on the Amazon River, turning off on to a smaller river that gets smaller the farther you go, into a protected area, then returning back down stream on the small river, to the confluence and returning to Iquitos on the Amazon River, stopping at interesting places along the way.

If you would rather spend more time on the Amazon River or all of your time cruising on the Amazon River, we will be happy to schedule that for you. In that case you will cruise down the Amazon River depending how many days you want, stopping at interesting places along the way, and then cruise back up the Amazon River to Iquitos.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no rainier season in the upper Amazon watershed. On a 10 year average we receive nearly the same amount of rainfall every month of the year. May is part of the high water season, which is determined by what happens on the east slope of the Andes far upstream. High water in the Iquitos area, and farther downstream, is caused by snow and glacier melt, plus the warm air from the jungle rising up the mountains, meeting the colder air, and forming a convection that is a rainy season. All of that water comes downstream, combining with rainfall along the way, causing the high water season we experience in May in Iquitos. Interesting that the high water is not a dangerous torrent or wall of water, because it spreads out of the banks of the rivers, sometimes for 20 miles, in some places a hundred miles, so it takes the pressure off the flood. The pressure goes out as much as down.

There are advantages and disadvantages between the high water and low water seasons. Low water is better for fishing and jungle hikes. High water is better for cruises and birdwatching, using small boats in the flooded jungle, and in some cases photography.

Our expedition style river boat, Dawn on the Amazon is available for you any days from mid to early May. Your rate is $199 per person per day. We charge by the day, not by the night. So hypothetically, if you choose May 11 to May 14, that is a 4 day cruise.

$199 X 4 days = $796 per person X 2 passengers = $1,592

If you prefer, make your cruise 3 days or 5 days and we will adjust the price accordingly.

I recommend arriving in Iquitos at least the day before your cruise. If that is not possible, please be on the early morning flight. Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 9:00am on the first day of your cruise, and assist you to the boat. The boat will return at around 4:30pm on the last day of your cruise.

I will send you an email with more of the details…

My best,
Bill

Hi Bill,
My Mum and I are trying to plan a trip to the Amazon region and your trips look ideal for us since we enjoy nature and birding. I love the idea of being on a cruise that goes off and explores the protected areas of smaller rivers. 🙂

Do you have anything available for mid-March 2014. We’re also hoping to find a guided tour to join for the rest of our trip to Peru if you can recommend any. We like to be part of a group, but not a huge group. Thanks much, Jane

43 Captain Bill January 22, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Hi Jane, Thanks for getting in touch with me. I can help arrange the Amazon cruise for you and your mum. Yes, the middle of March is available. I will send you an email and we can discuss the details.

My best,
Bill

Hi, I’m trying to plan well ahead and am looking for a suitable cruise over the Easter period next year. We are, however, flexible will dates if there is an ideal time to visit. It will be my wife and I. I anticipate a 5 night trip. What could you suggest as a rough guide and approximate cost?? Also I like the idea of time before and after at little lodge.
Many thanks
David

54 Matt August 21, 2014 at 12:19 pm

Hi I am curious about visiting in January. We are interested mostly in fly fishing. Is this a good time of year to visit for fly fishing? What would the cost be for a visit that focused mostly on fishing?

Thanks,
Matt

55 Captain Bill August 23, 2014 at 6:08 am

Hello Matt, Thank you for getting in touch with me. Perhaps I can help arrange your fly fishing adventure to the Amazon. Unfortunately fly fishing in January would be difficult and probably not very productive. January is part of the high water season and rising. Most likely by January the rivers and lakes will be out of their banks and flooding the jungle, so the fish can swim in the cover feeding like gluttons, safe from predators such as us humans with nets, gigs, lures, and flies. I have caught a lot of fish in the high water season but it is hard, and numbers will be down. I will send you and email with the details. Best regards, Bill

Hi Capt Bill,

We are coming to Iquitos in March’15 and apart from visiting the Amazon jungle, we would like to do some highlights in and around Iquitos. Would you be able to suggest some short 0.5-1 days itineraries for a couple of days in between the jungle exploration?

Thanks a lot in advance!
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
