Hi Rob, you are an amazing guy. I hope to learn from you, and I can help with Jazmin. We visit Mishana several time each year, and have made some friends there. My lodge is located the next village downstream from Mishana, so it may not be practical to use, but I have boats that will be valuable.

Hi Bill, our raft was the second raft rescued by your guys. We were raft #4 Healers Blue. We never had the opportunity to thank the guys because we were so traumatized by the experience. Your guys were very calm which helped us. We lost our flags with the crash. The next morning when we came to get on our raft, there were our flags ! We were touched, we feel sure that your guys found our flags and put them back on our raft. On our team website we have daily updates which we sent home to our team, these “diary ” updates might be good for the collection of stories you and Mike are collecting. Take a look and let us know. Our site address is kphealers.com Kathy-captain of KP Dragon Healers Dragon Boat Team of San Francisco, California

Dear Bill,
Thank you so much for publishing John E Ellerds writings. I am his soul mate/wife, Elliscia Ellerd. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your support of my precious John, he is a magnificent being. I do hope to meet you when I return with John to Peru. I’ve been sharing your web site with all our friends too. So thanks again for being so wonderful. Enjoy your life!
live, love, laugh and dance, Elliscia

Again I am in hopes that this note of appreciation finds both you and Marmelita doing great.
I was just on your site and noticed my last blog was up and read more on the raft race, I’m
thinking about trying that for myself this next year. That in it’s self would be an unforgettable
adventure of a lifetime.
I would like to let you know how much I appreciate your help and encouragement in getting
my experience with ayahuasca into the printed word.
My writings have opened up many other opportunities and avenues of sharing my experience
in educating others concerning the healing benefits of the plant medicine.
You have been an inspiration in so many ways. Thank you for your warm welcome when I
arrived, your encouragement while I was there, and your continued friendship and support
after I have returned to the states.
I will see you again in Feb.

In Light, Love, Life….John

Hi bill, I made a trip on the river in 2004 with my wife Myrna who passed away in 2009.We had a wonderful time on the riverboat ” River Amazones” I’m getting married again in Nov. and Bobbie and I would like to take about a six or seven day trip on the main river or on a tributary in march 2012. Your suggestions would be appreciated. We are both healthyand experienced travelers and SCUBA divers. The trip I took before was in mid march and the weather was perfect. hoping to hear from you. All the best Jerry

12 Tom August 8, 2012 at 9:50 pm

Will be coming there for short trip probably with two other couples. My wife mentions a hotel treetops or somthing like that. No plans yet but i would like about a 5 or 6 hour fishing experience. What do you suggest with your outfit?
Tom

13 Captain Bill August 11, 2012 at 3:56 pm

Hi Tom, Thanks for getting in touch with me on my blog. Perhaps I can help.

There is a lodge called Cieba Tops. Is that what you heard? I know most of what is going on around Iquitos. Let me know if I can help you.

What date would you like to go fishing? We need a minimum of two fishermen or the monetary equivalent to provide our fishing services. Your rate is $74.75 per person X 2 = $149.50 for one or two fisher people for several hours fishing.

Have you discovered the rest of my Captain’s Blog? Click this link to over 400 articles I’ve published about Iquitos, the rivers, the rainforest, Dawn on the Amazon, our boats, some of what we see and do on our tours and cruises, reviews about hotels and restaurants, and much more valuable information that can help make your adventure to the upper Amazon safer and better.

I would also like for you to know about our restaurant, the Dawn on the Amazon Café. We triple rinse all of our fruits and vegetables in purified water, and we use purified water in all of our food preparation including ice. We only use ancient sea salt from near Cusco, salt of the Incas, cook with steel pans, no MSG. We are an award winning restaurant that has also been ranked number 1 by TripAdvisor for over a year. We have wi-fi. Besides all of that the food is delicious and modestly priced.

The Dawn on the Amazon Café is located less than two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, on the corner of the beginning of Nauta Street and the Malecon, (or Boulevard) next to my offices. We have comfortable chairs on our sidewalk patio, overlooking one of the best views of the river.

Sincerely,
Bill

16 Inge Gomez-Michel January 3, 2013 at 8:59 pm

Hi Capitain Bill,

My question is not about fishing or boating or racing.
It’s rather a basic question about health issues. I am visiting Iquitos in two weeks and my doctor wants me to take all kinds of vaccines, such as Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Malaria tablets, etc., Is it really necessary? I have already taken the Typhoid $70.00. Next week is Yellow Fever $170.00 with side effects….not looking forward to that….:(
I want to skip the rest of these vaccines but at the same time since I am in my 60′s I don’t want to take any chances…
The USCDC (US Center for Disease Control) recommends immunization highly..when visiting that area. Can you tell me if these diseases are prevalent in Iquitos? Do you know if there are many cases reported?
I would appreciate your reply very much.
I’ll stop by to say hi at the Dawn on the Amazones Cafe when I get there.
Warm regards,
Inge

17 Captain Bill January 4, 2013 at 4:57 pm

Hello Inge, this is cut and pasted from the Information page on my web site for when you are going to spend time in the jungle;

HEALTH: If you plan to cross the border from Peru into Brazil, you are
required by law to have a yellow fever vaccination. The most common
problem is traveler’s diarrhea, the Inca’s revenge. Bring Imodium. Drink
only bottled water. Be suspicious of ice and diluted fruit juice. Was it
made with pure water? On our tours we use and provide only pure
water. I recommend going to an international travel clinic to update
your inoculations and for malaria medication. Plan well in advance. Few
places in the Northern Hemisphere will stock anti-malaria medication. I
have been immunized for Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A and B, Polio,
Typhoid, Meningitis, Tetanus and Diphtheria. Please check with the
Atlanta Center for Disease Control for advice. Go to link http://www.cdc.gov/travel.
Are you allergic to stinging bees or wasps? Bring your
medication! You must advise us to any special allergy or dietary
requirements well in advance. We will accommodate you.

If you are only going to stay in Iquitos, you probably don’t need to worry about most of these. Unless you plan to live in a remote village for months or enter Brazil from Peru, I would skip the Yellow Fever vaccination. I think it is a good idea to keep up to date on Tetanus and Hepatitis no matter where you are.

Best of luck on your travels,
Bill

Captain Bill

Can you please advise on the dates for the 2013 Raft race. Have to do some early planning to make it reality and would appreciate any help you can offer.

Appreciate your time,
Rob

19 Captain Bill January 9, 2013 at 9:20 am

Hello Rob, thanks for contacting me. The regional government will set the dates for the raft race. So far there is no word on that. Until then, we are in limbo. When the information becomes public I will post a new article for the 2013 raft race.

20 Spring Blossom May 1, 2013 at 10:46 am

Dear Bill, Your help has been much appreciated, now I have a new problem, I will come over to Dawn of Amazon now. I need to find Joe Plumb Urgently. xxx

21 Ian Nyquist May 7, 2013 at 5:32 pm

Myself and my team are interested in manning a raft in the 2013 race.

How do we register for that?

Also, we have a fourth person who is on the fence right now. Do we need to have all members of our team in place, or can we reserve a raft, and then solidify the last member of our team at a later date?

Thanks!

22 Captain Bill May 8, 2013 at 9:11 pm

Hello Ian, Thanks for getting in touch with me and friending me on facebook. We can chat about the details of the raft race there.

My best,
Bill
