I wish everyone that comes to Iquitos could visit the Butterfly Farm and the Belen Market. In my opinion they are as unique and interesting as any places anywhere. We combine those two places with looking for Pink Dolphins and it makes a fun day trip you won’t want to miss.

Itinerary

Your English-Spanish speaking guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 9:00am. Depending on which Amazon tour and day trip you are on, the day will go something like this.

The adventure begins when you hop into a motocarro, arranged and paid for by your guide, and race through the city streets to my home port at the Hunting and Fishing Club on the Nanay River, where the boat will be waiting. You will meet your experienced Amazon boat pilot, cast off and make yourself comfortable by around 9:30.

You will cruise to your first destination in the morning, enjoy at least a couple of hours there, return to the boat for the picnic, which usually consists of three types of ripe, hand chosen seasonal tropical fruits, the best we can find. French bread and cheese sandwich, two if you want, and either a tamale or humita, with two choices of sauces. This can vary according to availability but it will be something similarly delicious and lots of it. This could be a good time to pop the cork on your complimentary bottle of champagne, or if you prefer, beer, soda pop or purified bottled water. The time will depend on the distance to the destination but you will probably finish the picnic by 1:00 or 1:30 and be ready for your second destination shortly after lunch. You will spend another hour and a half or two enjoying your second destination and then leisurely return back toward Iquitos specifically looking for pink dolphins and interesting birds and wildlife. I estimate we see Pink Dolphins on 85% of our day trips. No guarantee but the odds are good. Then the boat returns to the Hunting and Fishing Club, and your guide assists you back to your hotel lobby in a motocarro that she arranges and pays for, tired but happy.

Everything included

The only reason you will need your wallet would be to buy some souvenirs along the way. All other expenses are covered in the price of admission. I emphasis this because other tour suppliers may advertise a lower price, but you will definitely need your wallet to pay for the surprise charges, like boat rental, gas, entrance fees, transportation, food and drinking water.

Single travelers welcome

We welcome single travelers to add to scheduled day trips. Please contact me with the information in the contact subtitle below to ask about available day trips for solo travelers to join. Thank you.

Payment

Payment can be made on the internet by credit card, (Visa adds a three and a half % international service charge, Master Card three %), or MoneyGram, Western Union, a deposit in our bank account in Banco de Credito from nearly any city in Peru, or by credit card, dollars or soles paid at our office here in Iquitos. Remember 48 hours in advance to get the discount and to give us time to get our boat ready, the picnic lunch organized, the cooler packed and hopefully to find another guest or two to accompany you.

Save 15% by booking 48 hours in advance, a nearly $10 discount per person

When there are two or more adults we offer a 15% discount when booking 48 hours in advance. The price drops from $74.50 to $65, nearly $10 per person. This is a mutually beneficial arrangement that gives us advance preparation time, and a chance to find another guest or two to accompany you.

Hi,
My friend and I will be visiting Iquitos in October. We will only have 2 days to see the sights. I am interested in booking one of your day tours. Amazon Trip 1 and 2 both look interesting to me. I am especially keen to see the pink dolphins, Belen Market, and floating village. However, I am also interested in a jungle walk and have always wanted to see a sloth in it’s native habitat.
We will arrive in Iquitos on October 14th and depart on the 18th. Perhaps you have a suggestion about what might be best. I also noted that you provide a discount for advance payment. Could you send this information in your reply?
Thank you so much for your assistance.
Kind regards,
Julie

Hi,
Wondering if I just stayed in town and took day trips,
what would the day trips to the Amazon be called and how many would
there be? Also what hotel would you suggest? What is the best month?
Thank you
Dora
