Marmelita and I Set The Wedding Date.
I appreciate that you have been following along with us and remember that I proposed to Marmelita while we were in Huaraz last December, Our Last Full Day In Huaraz, I Proposed Marriage To Marmelita. Did She Accept?.
Since the beginning of our Peru Vacation I had been looking for the best opportunity to propose formal marriage with Marmelita. Sitting in the shade of mature trees, on a quiet park bench with flowers gardens blooming beside us, birds chirping, and a fountain gurgling in the background created the most romantic setting in Huaraz.
I got down on one knee a little to the side and in front of her and said,”Marmelita, I’ve loved you for years, and I know you love me. Please, will you marry me?”
She said,”Bill, what is wrong with you? We are happy this way.”
“Marmelita darling,…my knee is hurting, Please say yes soon.” I begged.
She said yes and asked me to sit beside her before I hurt myself more. We hugged, we laughed, then we cried. Now we’re engaged, and we are happy.
Nothing is easy in Peru, the country with the 5th most bureaucracy required to do business in the world, including getting married. I thought we would be married in February, but it was impossible. Finally the first week of May all of the necessary documents are in place and our upcoming marriage has been approved by the government and the church.
Our civil ceremony, to make it official for the government, will be on May 17th. Our church ceremony, to make it official in the eyes of God, and for our memories, will be held at 3:00pm, June 26th in the San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Iquitos Peru. We will be honored to be married by Father Raymundo, a young priest we have gotten to know, like, and admire.
For our family and friends to have fun and feast, our reception will begin around 4:30 on the top two floors of the new Vista Amazonica, a beautiful open air venue overlooking the river. The Agrupacion Musical Miel de Abeja (If you try it, you won’t want to let it go) will play music you will want to dance to until midnight. They will take a break during the meal when there will be a musical change of pace and we will be entertained by a performance from the Iquitos String Orchestra.
The next day we will be whisked off on our romantic honey moon to explore the beach towns south of Lima.
Marmelita and I are in love and continue to live our dream the best way we know how. Thanks for caring.
