Our Favorite Grocery Store In Iquitos Peru

This building is our favorite grocery store.

This building houses our favorite grocery store.

The  address of the unassuming building that houses our favorite grocery store is #195 Raymondi, on the corner of the block past the tall deserted blue building near the the Plaza de Armas, and on the corner, of Nauta, one block from the Boulevard, between the Marañon Hotel and the river. The name of our favorite grocery store hardly matters because there is no sign, but it is named Autoservicios Saby, or called the Super Market, ha, ja.

We buy 98% of our groceries at the Belen Market, but there are luxury goods at the Super Market that were unavailable in Iquitos just a few years ago. Also Saby is a great convenience store because it is located just one block from our home.

This Chilean Cousino is one of the best brands of wine we can get in Iquitos.

Some luxury items that can be purchased at the super market, are imported Chilean wines, whole wheat bread, dijon mustard, Chinese condiments, granola, candy bars, olive oil, sacha inchi oil, spices, jerky, and much more. If you are a tourist Saby makes a good place to buy pure water, beer, snacks, soap, and other personal care products.

Marmelita is holding two brands of multi-whole grain breads we like, Don Jesus, and Oriental Pan Multigranos.

After 5:00pm they sometimes have delivered a great locally baked bread called chabata, and frequently have a locally baked crusty french bread roll. I highly recommend the chabata.

This Gopal Granola is my favorite cereal. The ingredients are Andean grains, cebada, kiwicha, ajonjoli, wheat berries, inflado, coconut flakes, brazil nuts, pecans, raisins, maca, kañhua, cinnaman, brown sugar, zest of lemon.

The super market is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00am to 12:00pm. On Sunday they are open from 7:00am until 2:00pm, then from 5:00pm until 12:00pm.

Knowing about this little grocery store can help make your stay in Iquitos a potentially healthier and better experience. If you are planning to visit Iquitos, book mark this article, or write down the address. It could come in handy.

We are fortunate to have so many new varieties of great products in Iquitos, such as Avocado Oil, Sacha Inchi Oil, and Virgin Olive Oil.

If you live here in Iquitos, and have any suggestions about your favorite super market, please leave a comment. Thanks.

We’re in Iquitos on our Trans-Americas Journey and I came across this post about Saby. We just went to the address today and the shop isn’t there anymore or the place has been closed for the past three days. Do you know if Saby is closed? Did they move? Or do they just happen to be taking a few days off right now (end of October 2015)?

Hello, sadly, Saby has closed. The owner suffered from poor health.
