5th International Amazonian Shamanism Conference, Iquitos Peru

“The Art and the Heart of Healing”

The 5th International Amazonian Shamanism Conference is being presented in Iquitos Peru from July 11 to July 18 by Soga Del Alma (Spanish for Vine of the Soul). The Shaman Conference brings together guest speakers from many walks of life, all with an interest and knowledge of ethnobotany , with a group of authentic native shamans who are the last guardians of the secrets of medicinal jungle plants, passed down from generation to generation of shamans, and an opportunity for the general public to learn from the speakers and the shaman.

The Shamanism Conference is well named because Shaman has a popular appeal that the words Curandero (one who heals), or Vegetalistas (one who heals using plants), although more accurate, are not yet mainstream words with equal recognition in most peoples minds.

The Shaman Conference will be more than academic. It will also be hands on. The audience will have an opportunity to choose the shaman that appeals to them the most and experience 3 ayahuasca ceremonies.

Ayahuasca is a medicinal tea made from the jungle liana vine, Banisteriopsis Caapi, usually mixed with the leaves of the shrub Psychotria to produce a hallucinogenic vision used for spiritual and medicinal knowledge.

Iquitos Peru is the gateway to Amazon adventures and to an ayahuasca ceremony with an authentic shaman guiding the vision. Many foreigners are still living in Iquitos, treated by their shamans, months and years after their Western Medicine trained doctors gave them a short time to live. Iquitos is full of anecdotal evidence of the power of ayahuasca as a diagnostic tool administered by an expert curandero.
