Swine Flu Affects Tourism Worldwide

Swine Flu Affects Tourism Worldwide, Even in Iquitos Peru

The Swine Flu Influenza A(H1N1) does not exist in Peru, but it is still affecting tourism, even here in Iquitos where no roads go, in the most isolated city in the world. Our world is small. We are interconnected.

This morning I sent Dawn on the Amazon I on a 5 day Amazon Cruise with only one passenger. The other passengers would have come from Mexico, but they were not allowed to board the plane to Peru because of the swine flu in Mexico.

I lose money sending my  boat with just one passenger. I could have canceled the cruise, but my passenger had rescheduled her Galapagos Island Cruise to go with Dawn on the Amazon and I didn’t want to disappoint her. I’ll either reschedule the passengers that couldn’t board the plane in Mexico or refund their money.

I can only imagine how swine flu has devastated tourism in Mexico. I don’t have to imagine how swine flu has affected tourism in Peru. I feel it.
