The Hotel Anaconda Resort, the most excellent pool in Iquitos Peru

Last Sunday Marmelita, Matt, and I went exploring to the new Hotel Anaconda Resort, located at Av. 28 de Julio # 1820, on the outskirts of the suburb of Punchana. We discovered the most excellent pool in Iquitos Peru, and 21 comfortable well appointed bungalows in a quiet, setting.

The bungalows rent for $39, and include a matrimonial bed, TV, air conditioning, attractive tile work, modern bathrooms, a private fenced in patio large enough to park a car and motorcycle, with a gate that can be discreetly closed for additional privacy. Each bungalow has a garden of ornamental plants including a trellised bougainvillea vine.

As romantic as the bungalows are, the pool is the highlight, with a sunken swim up bar, and underwater stools to sit on while drinking a cold beer under a thatch roof in the shade. For now the pool is only available to those who rent a bungalow or spend a substantial amount at the bar.

The Hotel Anaconda Resort restaurant is not open yet. We were shown the kitchen which is fully equipped with lots of stainless steel counter tops, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, pots, pans, tools, and everything necessary to potentially have an excellent restaurant. When the restaurant is open it will be possible to order a meal with drinks, and to use the pool without renting a bungalow.

The Hotel Anaconda Resort is open, but not complete. When it is finished I will probably add it to my Hotels of Iquitos Peru; Reviews, Rates, and Recommendations article, if the restaurant is good, if they finish landscaping, and if it is well run, and if management does what they say they will do.

The location can be either a problem or an advantage, depending on what you want.

It is a 15 minute, S/ 3 sole moto-carro ride to and from the tourist center, 45 minutes from the airport. There is very little infrastructure near by. There is no restaurant or store within easy walking distance, which is another reason it is important they have a good restaurant on the site.

The advantage of the location would be there is very little moto-carro traffic, so it is quiet. Quiet is valuable in Iquitos. The distance would not be important if you have your own car or motorcycle.

It is closer to the ports on the Itaya, and on the Nanay River, the main hospital, the navy base, and and Bella Vista Nanay.

In conclusion, the Hotel Anaconda Resort has great potential. I will keep you posted on the development of that potential. I look forward to reviewing their new restaurant when it opens, and learning if their services are as excellent as their pool and bar.
