The-Great-River-Amazon-Raft-Race,-2006-The Winners

The Great River Amazon Raft Race Blog

We have held The Great River Amazon Raft Race here in Iquitos, Peru since 1998. At first it was just a one day affair attracting local people. In 2006 the race was extended to cover 180 kilometers or 112 miles of the mighty River Amazon over three days. Each team of four must construct their own raft out of balsawood logs and other materials (which are provided) and then paddle the craft for three days through the magnificent rainforest to the finish line in Iquitos.

Eleven different countries took part last year, but it seems the foreigners can never beat the local rafters who always take about four hours less over the three days to complete the course. The winners of the 2007 Great River Amazon Raft Race are the “Los Invincibles”.

First Anniversary of the Captains Blog

Filed under: Dawn on the Amazon — Bill @ 10:01 pm

What a year! I am proud of my first blog. I made 47 posts, and you made over 1,000 comments.  You all amaze me. You wrote more than I did, and with such passion. Thank you all for helping make the Captains Blog a success.  Most of you were very supportive. A few of you called me names, insulted my mother, and were rougher than most blogs would allow. It is the Christmas season, and you are part of my online community, I want to wish every one of you a Merry Christmas.

I fell short on my goal of making one post per week. I know I can do better in the second year. My new goal is two interesting posts per week. I have enough material to make two interesting posts per day, so I should be able to write two very good articles per week. I hope you will check back with me and let me know how I am doing.

I would like for you to go back and read some of my favorite posts from the last year. You may have missed some of them because of the more controversial articles. These are my favorites, I hope you enjoy them.
