The original comments are still complete with no changes in the comment section of the article, How the Amazon Golf Club Was Stolen. These exerts are what caught my eye as important, profound, or funny. I was pleased that there was so much content that deserved merit. The original list I saved was twice this long, too long to accomplish my objective. Let’s start over and leave our comments under this condensed summary.

According to the Public Register an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Amazon Golf Club was held at the Yellow Rose of Texas bar in Iquitos at 8.00 p.m. on the 7th April 2006. According to the public register there were 7 members at that meeting. They were;
Michael Collis
Maria Earls
Dan Buzzo
Delmer de Aguila
Sergio Bargas
Gerald Mayeaux
Ryan Richards.
The Public Records state that the meeting was chaired by me, Michael Collis. The Public Records show that the minutes of this meeting state that I Michael Collis proposed that the Amazon Golf Club be dissolved and that Gerald Mayeaux be appointed as Liquidator of the Club’s assets. The Public Register shows that the proposals were accepted unanimously and all in attendance signed the minutes in acceptance.
THE TRUTH IS THIS; There was no such meeting, I Michael Collis was not there, Maria Earls was not there, Dan Buzzo was not there, Delmer de Aguila was not there and Gerald Mayeaux was with Dan Buzzo in another location celebrating Dan Buzzo’s 85th birthday so he was not there either. THE MEETING NEVER TOOK PLACE.
The Public Register shows that Gerald Mayeaux declared that when the Amazon Golf Club was dissolved it had NO ASSETS whatsoever, not even 50 cents. At that time the club had its clubhouse, machinery, golfing equipment and a bank balance. As Liquidator of the assets of the club Gerald donated the assets that he previously declared not to exist, to the recently formed Amazon Golf and Country Club which is being run by Gerald Mayeaux and his associates.
The law also states that before a club or business like this can be dissolved 3 announcements must be placed in the local newspapers and these announcements should be lodged in the Public Register Office. There are NO such announcements on file. If the Amazon Golf Club was dissolved at a Non Existent Extraordinary General Meeting that did not take place then it was dissolved illegally and Gerald Mayeaux and his associates are controlling the club illegally. The accused have decided to use their right to remain silent.”
# 64: “I have traveled to Iquitos every year for the past 15 years. I am not an investor in the club but I know many of the players. Gerald does have warts but then again I would argue we all do. As a banker I have learned the importance of due diligence and putting rumor and innuendo aside and dealing with the facts.”
# 65: “The apparent central figure in the entire issue certainly appears to be Gerald Mayeaux. He obviously could not pull off this coup d’éta alone, however. For those who seem to feel perhaps no wrong has been done, please explain why the club was dissolved without the knowledge of the majority over a year ago.”
# 66: “All Peruvians with any experience under their belt and the slightest legal knowledge understand that there are two worlds in Peru: the real world and the legal world. Only sometimes do they overlap, about as frequently as a solar eclipse, and like the broken clock that tells the correct time twice a day, the legal corresponds with real. The accountant’s job is to create documentarily the legal reality. And that’s how things are done.”
# 69: “I spent 3 hours with the Fiscal (Public Prosecutor) and he said that he thought a crime had been committed and that they were going to investigate it further. I told the Fiscal that we didn’t want to get people into trouble we only wanted what was wrong put right i.e. the Annulment of the “Dissolution of the Amazon Golf Club” so that we can return to the status quo and work it out between ourselves. He replied “If a crime has been committed against the Public Interest (Contra la Fe Publica) then the accused WILL face trial.”
# 77: “At least one crime has been committed, contempt of court, for failure to turn over the Amazon Golf Club bank account information, minutes of the meeting, and documents pertaining to the dissolution of the Amazon Golf Club. They are guilty of contempt of court. History is clear; it is not the crime, but the cover up.”
# 84: “If Gerald Mayeaux was an honorable man there would not be this suspicion of corruption. Gerald Mayeaux should be banned from the Amazon Golf Club. He is an investor, so he keeps his share, but needs to step completely out of the picture and stay to hell out.”
# 88: “Roberts Rules are very clear. The majority shall rule, the minority shall have the right to speak and those not present shall be protected.”
# 99: “The proposed constitution looks very promising; however it is a long way from being in place so let’s save the celebration until we have it in place and working.”
# 102: “I have built 3 multimillion dollar golf courses in the USA and I don’t believe any of the architects and engineers ever played golf including myself. We of course did hire consultants who had a proven track record in designing golf courses and maybe they did play golf. I don’t know. Most airlines are owned by people that are not pilots and don’t understand how to fly a plane. All I need to do to qualify to vote is buy shares. Don’t sell me shares if I can’t vote.”
# 105: “Leave it up to me and the other investors who we want to be the officers and directors. Trust us to vote for the person who would benefit our investment the best. The ones who are the most qualified. One of my previous businesses was a tavern. I hated drunks but I had more of them than all the other taverns in town put together. We went to great length to get them their favorite whiskey or beer even thou they all tasted the same to me.”

# 144: “I have heard that the police are pressing charges against Ryan and Gerald for trespassing on the golf course . Is it true? If it is true then, “Its game over” for the gang of thieves. Someone please tell me it is true.”
# 145: “It is true. The charges against Ryan, Gerald and others still stand and because the trespass charge against them was with threats of violence; these charges are criminal charges.”
# 147: “My last post was, at best, obliquely related to my ex-friend “The Iquitos Scoundrel”, Gerald Mayeaux. I tried to envision being in a position where I faced each day encountering people I have screwed, people who once foolishly trusted me. What a lonely life. Try to envision facing each day knowing most people look upon you with disdain.”

What to say?…
It’s quite obvious that there are gringos against other gringos, not simply over the golf course but, to put it delicately, over personality clashes. Having been here now for 15 years, this problem has always reared its ugly head. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that I live here and that this is a very small town, too small to have enemies and why bother with that anyway. Whatever type of personality quirk people have (and we all do or we probably wouldn’t be living down here), I think I can find room for it in my stance, my philosphy. And yes, sometimes we all get angry and words are said, but certainly we can get past that. Get over it! Now, that said, I am as confused as everyone about the golf course. I was told that when it was reorganized, that everyone that was a member before is also a member now. That I know of, that still holds. I received an invitation to come to an official meeting on the 31st of March and when I saw Papa Dan, he had not receieved one. Probably many people did not and I don’t know why. Perhaps there’s a simple answer to why not, maybe that Sergio just didn’t have their emails handy… Again, I don’t know why. The meeting is at Noon, March 31st in the clubhouse at the golfcourse. Perhaps then we’ll all know what is happening.

I never got an invitation. It is to late for me to be there by tomorrow if in fact I am invited. It would be nice if you got an answer to the challenge I gave you sometime ago. Why is Gerald, Adam, and Ryan against the concept of the constitution that I posted on the Blog? Everyone else, and I mean everyone, has been overwhelming supportative of it.

Personally I think this ; If any member of the original Amazon Golf Club signs up with the new regime then (and I say this personally) they should consider themselves no longer a member of the original Amazon Golf Club.

I am not at all surprised by your reply because thats all we have heard over this last year “I’m not interested in who has been disenfranchised, I just want to play golf”.
In January 2004, when Bill Grimes became the lst member he said “I hate golf and I hate golfers” I often wondered why? Now I know, golfers are the most selfish of all sportsmen, you dont care that 8 japanese people have lost $4,000, which was used to buy the tractor mower that now mows your precious course.
If you golfers had stood shoulder to shoulder with the non-golfers a year ago Mayeaux would have never gone as far as he did. You all claim to be neutral and just “wanna play golf”, well Mayeaux counted that as support for his dastardly plan to take over our club, so you golfers are just as much to blame as the acadian Mayeaux.
When the day comes, and it will, stock will be taken and retribution paid.
If you golfers had refused to have anything to do with the golf club a year ago then Mayeaux would have stopped his plan and myself and others would not have suffered the pain, the anguish, the financial cost and maybe some longstanding friendships would have never been torn to shreds. Enjoy your golf.

Hi Alan, every day I am surprised that good men like you, Hans, Armando, Shawn, Leo, and the other golfers support the “Iquitos Scoundrel,” mayeaux. Every day I am surprised that you and I know the same things, and react so differently. I am impressed by your spiritual growth. Whether it is your church, or meditation; for some reason, knowing the same things I know, you are not only willing to include mayeaux the acadian in your philosophy, but willing to support him on a day to day basis. I think your stance; your philosophy is too broad, and needs focus. Lying, cheating, corruption and stealing must not be tolerated no matter how small the town. A good argument could be made there is less room for anti-social behavior in a small town.
I understand Mike’s feelings in comment # 5. However, if we take that attitude we are as bad as mayeaux and his gang. To me it is simple, everyone that invested in the original Amazon Golf Club, is a shareholder; much more than a member. How is your situation better with mayeaux? You could “play golf for life for free” and support the legitimate club like you should. mayeaux’s club only exists because of the support you and the other golfers give it. You can be sure that we are bitter about the actions of everyone that supports them. Golfers open your eyes; think…you are on the wrong side. All of you that rejected Peter Schneider’s solution deserve to be mayeaux’s next victims.

I have heard from a very good source that this new regime held a meeting on Saturday 31st March. Well from what I was told it was not a meeting but an “audience” with the dictator Mayeaux. He announced that from now on all golfing members must pay $30 per month.
That he had appointed his running dog Sergio Bargas as General Manager of the club with full financial control. (The foxes are looking after the chicken house now!) That Scurgio receive 50% of the green fees and 50% of all Pro shop profits.
I understand that a few of Mayeaux’s associates are not at all happy.

Your comment #7 says you will play golf free yet Mike in comment #11 says he heard from a very reliable source that all members have to pay $30.00 a month plus greens fee. That doesn’t sound like “FREE” to me.
I am happy I saw the light early on. Haven’t you had enough yet? I remember when you were going to print the constitution on the blog and Gerald kept giving you the old one, and then all previous members were going to be members of the new club yet only a handful received invitations to the meeting on Saturday. So on and so on. I hope you see the light soon before it is to late. We all think of you as a great friend and at a certain time “guilt by association” will fall into play.
DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND. THE MONEY YOU INVESTED IN THE GOLF CLUB IS GONE. THEY TOOK YOUR SHARES, STOCK, MEMBERSHIP, ETC.

I was also wondering why the 3 lady members Maria Earls, Martha Costa, and Alicia Retigo, (all from Iquitos) were not invited?
Could it be;
1. They are peruvians ?
2. They are women ?
3. They are non golfers ?
or a combination of all 3 ?

Mike, I believe that you deserve kudos for your inspiration, ideas and work in creating the golf course in the first place. I consider you a friend as I do Gerald. I remember the many times the first few years Gerald opened his restaurant how great you got along with him. The jokes, the kidding, the laughter… However, I feel the tone of this discussion has now become personal and a vendetta.
Remember this famous soliloquy from Shakespeare’s Macbeath: “Out, Out brief candle. Life is but a walking shadow.. A poor player that struts and frets his last hour upon the stage and is heard no more. Tis a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing”.
It is time to get along and accept one another…warts and all!

You are right Jim, in the old days we were all friends, but I doubt that even you would tolerate Mayeaux if he stole from you. Even more important to me is the responsibilty
I have to protect all of those wonderful people who trusted me to put their hard earned money
into the construction of the first golf course here in Amazonia.
Like Bill said in his article, he knew it was risky, and that he might lose his investment, but he never thought it would be stolen from him, especially by someone he considered to be a friend.
Its not too late Jim, if Mayeaux puts right what he has done, perhaps in time things might change.

Bill Grimes asked me to convey this event to you all.
Last week after seeing the proposed constitution for our club Dave Volkmann asked me to “bite the bullet” and go to Gerald and thank him for his work. Reluctantly I did so , but I did more. I went over to Gerald’s place and offered him a brand new boxed set of Slazenger golf balls that a friend had given me.
He said “Stick em up ya ass”
I replied “O.K. but i just wanted to thank you for the new constitution.”
He said ” Thats just a joke!”
“Gerald don’t you want peace?” I said,

Jim, I am delighted to welcome you back. Not many of us can quote Shakespeare, on “this two-bit blog,” so we need you for balance. Funny how we read words and evaluate situations differently. Like I mentioned to Alan, we all hear and read more or less the same things, but we interpret them differently. I would like to move us forward to a point beyond name calling, where we can all KNOW whether or not Gerald Mayeaux is operating for the good of all members who invested in the Amazon Golf Club. Where we can all KNOW whether or not he is operating within the law. Shortly after we acquire that knowledge we can put all of this behind us and work toward a bright future. There seems to be a misunderstanding here, Jim never said anything bad about girls from Iquitos, it was Mayeaux who has said many,many times that all of the women and girls from Iquitos are prostitutes.
Now can we get back to the real issue the stealing of our golf club.

I found out last evening that all founder members of the original Amazon Golf Club will be accepted into the new Amazon Golf & Country Club but only as members,not investers.
Also, there is another condition, when we apply to join we must get down on our knees and swear allegence to King Mayeaux.

It’s Friday before Easter…
What a piece of work you guys slobber out of your mouths. You don’t belong on a golf course and certainly don’t belong as memebers of one either.
As I have said all along, everyone that paid for a membership (share or whatever you want to call it) are members still. No money was stolen, no Japanese have been disenfranchised, everyone that has paid is a member!)
Many things have been done by, what we will have to call: Both Sides. There were and will be many mistakes, of course.
Sh.t happens, especially here in Peru. But when you take a breath, there is still this beautiful golf course out there.,
and also there are those that can not accept this fact and want to believe and CONQUER something that never existed, just out of personal pride and vengence. It’s obvious that many of you dislike Gerald. This is not about him but from the read I get, it always turns into that. I can tell you about what Mike and John and others have stupidly done, I can tell you about the reactions too. Why bother? Just stirs the pot. WE have a golfcourse, everyone that paid into this is a member. No one needs to get on knees, why would you do that? Why would you think that Gerald controls this golfcourse? He does not.
I have still not had time to sit down with anyone that went to the meeting. This is a very busy time for me and will remain so until September. If it turns out that I have to pay 30 dollars a month to keep this running until there are people going out there playing golf, paying the greens fees, then that is what I have to do. Rome was not built on a song you know… and you really don’t want me to quote the Bard because my university degree is in Theatre and so..don’´t get me started.
But I will leave you with this because it is so easy: Whether it is noble in the minds of men to suffer the slings and sorrows of OUTRAGEOUS fortune or to take arms aganist them, THAT IS THE QUESTION.
And the answer is: Relax, all things come to those that wait.
Stop kicking a dead horse.

If what you say is true, you are right, we have all been arguing for nothing, worrying about nothing. You say everything is O.K. we are ALL members of the golf club, but does that mean we are still investors and can sell or transfer our shares/memmberships ?
If we can then great , so when can we attend a meeting and be told this officially ?
When can John Zeller,Bill Grimes, Dave Volkmann, Dave Sheridan and myself go and have a little stroll around the golf course we helped pay for ?

The club has a board of directors and frankly I don’t know who is what. I think that Adam is the President, James Bruner is probably the VP, Hans is a Director if I am not mistaken, Sergio is Club Pro, I don’t know if Shawn is still in there but he might also be a director.
I’m not even close to getting at the bottom of all this.

Thanks Alan for responding so quickly. One question leads to another. Now who elected the board of directors, president, VP, and hired or elected the Club Pro? When were they elected and when does there term expire. Is the roster of those that get notified of the meetings and elections available to all?

It is also exactly one year ago tonight that Mayeaux and his co-conspiritors illegally disolved our golf club.
Over this last year nothing has happened except we have had many promises made about the new constitution,about everybody’s investment being safe, and no one is excluded etc.etc.etc..
How much longer do we have to wait to have this WRONG put RIGHT ?

Its been two weeks since anybody has posted a comment here. Is the golf war over? Who won? Is there a constitution? Are directors and officers going to be elected by the stockholders? Who officially is part of the golf course now? I never get emails notifing me of meetings, dues, ect.

The missionaires, who tend to be judgemental religious zealtos, are equally despicable. My bible training included something about “stand up and be counted,” and required that antagonist have the strength and courage to confront a wrongdoer.

I deleted my original reply to you which was too harsh. You and I have been friends for some time and you would have known I was joking, but I did not want to scare off other potential guests to our discussion.
This is not a Military Tribunal. It is not being conducted anonymously, your name is posted under your comment just like everyone else. As you know, I am also an ex-marine and I believe the Major is brave to speak up on an important human rights issue. I have been reading all these comments and I have a couple of questions here for two people
#1 WHY DOES GERALD NOT WRITE HERE TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS GOING ON?
#2 DOES ALAN SHOEMAKER KNOW THAT WHEN HE WAS ARRESTED IN MIAMI, THAT GERALD WAS THE ONE WHO CALLED THE OFFICIALS TO LET THEM KNOW HE WAS COMING, THEN TRIED TO STEAL HIS WORK ON DIABETES WITH ANOTHER FRAUD BUT IT DID NOT WORK BECAUSE GERALD HAD NO MONEY AND THE SAME WITH HIS PARTNER.
Thanks to that keep this alive and want to do the right thing. I was there when Mike told Bill of his idea and gerald was the first to tell Mike what a stupid idea it was and would never go and how the course would be so bad that he would never play there. He never jumped on the bandwagon so to speak until it really started to go and GERALD saw a way that he could control it. then he did not just take the wagon but the tractor pulling it also.

I found out last night that Gerald’s accountant , you know the one who signed off a zero,zero, zero balance
when Gerald illegally disolved our Amazon Golf Club was questioned yesterday by the local Fiscal (District attorney).
Is it true that he confessed to signing the document without, as is legal requirement, to verify the contents to be true ?
Is it true that he said that Pamela asked him to do it as a personal “favour” for her ?
Can anyone confirm this ?

Your golf club was disolved illegally by Mayeaux. this will be shown to br true very soon. He should go to jail for his crime.
Consider these points.
Several people signing as owners did not have business visas. No where does the constitucion mention the physical golf club, where, what is it or rent or own or buying or anything. Does anyone of either golf club have a right to play golf when the club is not mentioned in the constitution.
Where are the receipts that the company received the money to buy the lawn mower from the stockholders . Did the lawnmower come from heaven ?
Was that income reported to SUNAT ?
Where is the Balance Sheet presented to SUNAT ? What does it say ?
What about the receipts and photos and tournament of the old club showing the assets and improvements existed before the famous liquidation ? Are they part of the denuncia.
Was the liquidation done in accordance with Peruvian law ? Was public notice given in the legal newspaper ?
Was a quorum present ?
Does the liquidation mention all the members legally ?
Where is the receipt for the lawnmower ?
Who imported it ? Where are the witnesses that paid for it ?
Where is the copy of the doc that the state is the owner of the land ?
Send a letter to the Japanese Founder Members telling them that they have been thrown out of the golf club and asking for the confirmation signed and authenticated by the Peruvian Consulate that they donated the money for the lawn mower in trade for membership and were never notified of the dissolution and theft of their investment.

In case no one is aware, I have a copy of the “constitution of Thieves” being translated for publishing here in english as well as spanish. I is an official copy, like the one I have attached to my denunce that I hope and pray puts Gerald in the slammer. Is anyone surprised that the15 listed members in the “constitution of Thieves” have split up the value of our lawn mower (the one purchased with the Japanese money). They (including you Alan Shoemaker who said we still had our invetsment) have each received 877 shares at 1 sole/share. Where is the rest of the assets Alan? Did Gerald keep it all for himself? The assets of the original club were presented to the authorities as zero. Was it zero Alan???

Dave Sheridan, what a piece of work you are. I just had dinner with you for the birthday party of Jim King and I told you very clearly that I did not want to discuss the golf course with you and that I did not know anything about what was happening and what was supposed to have transpired, and frankly Dave Sheridan, a discussion with you about it at a dinner party would have been upsurd because you are way too wound up and emotionally involved with what you believe to be the truth. For you to slam me here simply shows what kind of a man you are. You know very well where I live, you are here in Iquitos and could have easily come to my house to discuss what you believe to be the truth. However, you did not. Instead you decided that you were absolutely correct and so you assumed alot my old friend and preferred to post here rather than speak to me in person. What a piece of work you are. I wasn’t raised that way, obviously you were. so now you have worn your welcome out with me senor. Do you think I would stoop so low as to post on this blog for all the World to read that you are fat, stupid and ugly? No, I would never do that.
As far as having shares goes, I have no idea about this. But… since I paid $350 dollars for my membership, I guess that means that I have those shares. I would assume that anyone that purchased a membership would also have the same shares, right? Well, that is if you purchased legal memberships. What about you Dave Sheridan, where did you purchase your shares? If they were purchased from someone that told you that they had double the amount of shares because the stock split then you have a problem. Yes, I do understand that at one point we were all told that the stock split… And so there was another meeting saying that yes, the stock had split BUT those split shares could not be sold to anyone at that point. At what point could they be sold? I have no idea about that.
Do post the constitution when you get it translated or you could post it in Spanish Dave Sheridan, because many of us have taken the time to learn the language. Ok, I’ve done this about as nicely as I can and without any real emotions involved. Why would I expend emotional on an overly emotional and incorrectly assumed outburst? I just don’t have the time nor inclination for that. Why bother.

I am leaving Shanghai in a week and hope to meet with as many as possible in the warm and welcoming city of Iquitos. Who is this Jim Richardson Guy ? Does he know he is not a member of the golf club ? I got a faxed copy of the new constitution and I must say it is an eye opener. I hope this person Dave does infact get it translated and published. WOW . What amazes me is that the golf course is not even mentioned in the constitucion, it is a club only without a home according to the constitution excrpt for some address in Iquitos. This is more strange every week.

Well, I must say this is all very interesting to me! I am Gerald’s daughter. I have not seen nor spoken to him since 1994. I tried desperately to contact him in 2003 when Pepaw (his dad) died. No response. He left my mom when I was 7; cheated on her non-stop those seven years. Bla bla bla I could go on forever! Glad he’s in Peru and not Texas. Oh and by the way, he never even went to UT and certainly did not play baseball there. If you see him let him know his mom had lung and brain cancer and will not make it through the summer. I am sure that wikll break his heart, oh never mind, he obviously does not have one!

I too have 2 daughters (30 & 32) and a son 26 but I am in constant contact with them along with my parents (86 & 80) and I cannot imagine a time when albeit by email I did not have some sort of contact with them.
I was sorry to hear about your Grandad and now the news about your Grandmother. I cannot imagine any son not being in contact with his parents, mine are getting on now so time is very preciuos to me.
I was a friend of your Fathers for 7 years but the unforgivable things he has done he to the local people and to those who considered him a freind make friendship with him impossible. It appears to me he has no regard for family or friends, I’m sorry.

I agree that Brandon is one of the best street children we have. Brandon deserves a volley ball scholarship. He is fanatical about the game, and talented.

I am sadden that I and others have said many negative things about your father and you have read them. You see, your father not only was my best friend in Peru, but best friend to many who have commented here. I think that is what hurts the most. If he was just a common criminal it wouldn’t have been so bad. I have wondered not the power of this blog, but what good will come out of it. Perhaps a father and daughter will make amends and communicate again with each other because of this blog. I don’t know how many half siblings you have in Peru, but I do know one who is a doll and I am sure would love to meet you. If you ever decide to come to Peru I am sure you will be welcomed with open arms by everyone. I live in Wisconsin and will be back in Iquitos Peru in September with my wife. Firstly, I’d like to thank Mike Collis for using this forum to wish my dad, ‘Papa Dan’ Buzzo, a happy birthday and reminding all that he just turned 86 years old. I he has had to attend yet another funeral since he’s been up here.
I don’t believe he has posted any comments here and doubt he will. I do know that he did ‘invest’ in the club as one of its founding members and was very excited about that fact. I, also, know he has very many, many dear and close friends in Iquitos and he is proud to be their friend. Of those friends, he speaks highly & often. Of others, he says nothing unless pressed and even then does not berate them.
I am extremely disappointed, as are those of you whom post your comments here, that it has come to this and pray this whole mess can be resolved, peace among the gringos (and Peruvians) can be restored and that an old man whom has suffered much throughout his life can just get what he paid for and not have to pay any more.
It is a shame that this has created such turmoil, angst, and bitterness among the ex-pat community in Iquitos. Many of you whom live there know that I have many ties to Iquitos and that my plan is to return there as soon as possible & while Papa Dan is still living there.
Over the last thirty three years, I have seen Iquitos grow & change a lot and was excited myself about the golf club. I had hoped to be able ‘duff’ a few rounds on the course. My dad’s plans “were” for me to inherit his membership and possibly keep his legacy alive as one of the charter members. Alas, it looks as if that won’t happen.
To Michele; I am sorry to hear of your tragedies as a child and your continuing saga with your grandparents. I am glad that you are a believer and have Him as your ‘rock’. I, too, live in Texas and if you would like to contact me via e-mail, I give Bill my permission to provide you with my address and will send him a personal e-mail stating the same. I do this with no ulterior motives to post anything here about Gerald. I am only on one side…my father’s.

Who else in Iquitos would have the gall to come on a public forum and defend the most hated gringo in Iquitos and then give us lessons on morality? But then, who else in Iquitos has been in jail in both Peru and the United States for drug trafficking? It is time that the world knows the truth about Alan Shoemaker and the people he supports such as Gerald Mayeaux. The only Iquitos “sham-artist” that comes close to Mr. Shoemaker is Gerald Mayeaux, who tells everyone he is the American Consul in Iquitos. Now is the time to stop them from their continued lies and cons of naive tourists. This blog is doing just that. Thank you Bill for helping to put an end to their evil lies and abuse of naive tourists.

As many of you know, I put together the deal (& $) for Jim Dolan to move out of the original “Gringo Bar” location in the hotel & move to another location, on the condition it be re-named “Pappa Dan’s El Gringo Bar” (in the tradion of my two ‘Pappa Dan’s’ bar & grills in Ecuador). Due to certain circumstances regarding my family, I turned my portion of the proprietorship over to my Dad, Papa Dan. Again, due to circumstances beyond our control, we lost all our investment.
I certainly hope “El Gringo” bar is doing well. We have been hanging T-Shirts in some of the best eating (and drinking) establishments all across the great Lone Star State. By the way, San Antonio just brought home another NBA World Championship. Go Spurs GO!!!!
I am awaiting word back from Mr. Karma on his ‘new’ dirt on Alan. Hope it’s not old…we’ve heard enough of that. Am, also, awaiting word from UT. As of yet…nada.

There is that “Beware of the Cobbler” phrase again. That is funny.
I “borrowed” the name The Cobbler, (with Alan’s amused permission) to use as the name of one my characters for my novel in the post on the Captains Blog for January 23rd, The Characters of Iquitos, Peru at http://dawnontheamazon.com/blog/2007/01/23/58/ . The Cobbler is a gringo shaman.
We would all be better off if we had a sense of humor. My Cobbler, is not getting rich, he is surviving, barely one step ahead of the DEA. My Cobbler is a sympathetic character, not one of the villains. My Cobbler wants to do good in the world, but circumstances and small mistakes in judgment keep getting in his way.
There is a real villain in my story. Garard, or Gerry, is a mean son of a bitch. He is an egotistical sociopath with no conscience. He wakes up every morning thinking he never did wrong even once.
The Cobbler and Gerard, and all of the other characters interact in humorous ways. The story is a comedy.
I think the moral is, lets don’t take our selves too seriously.
Any similarity, real or imagined, between my characters, and real characters that you might know is purely coincidental.
But that is another story.

I am so sorry but Mayeaux killed the El Gringo in March.
The El Gringo or “Papa Dans El Gringo Bar” was an institution here in Iquitos but Mayeaux’s greed put an end to that.
I remember the first El Gringo Bar that I knew, it was on the gound floor of the Amazon Suites. then it moved to the Amazon Hotel.Doug Morris then took the El Gringo Bar to Putumayo Street forgetting that his neighbour would be Mayeaux. Mayeaux made Doug’s life a misery. I remember Mayeaux shouting obscenities at him as he walked by. Eventually Doug sold out to Cleve Durden.
Cleve knew Mayeaux well for years and was determined to ignor Mayeaux’s insults and dirty tricks and refused to give in.
Then, we think Mayeaux’s inlaws bought the building from under Cleves feet, so the dispicable Mayeaux got his hands on the bar and resigned your Dad’s dream the “El Gringo Bar” to be just a memory.

Funny how some of you have taken such an interest in my life. I suppose I appreciate that, even though you have done it with such vengence. Regardless, you have tried to look at me and you have drawn conclusions as well, not really caring if you were slandering me or not. I forgive you for that, why not? You really can’t help yourself and obviously your Mother’s and Father’s rearing of you left something to be desired.
My wife has had a company here for 12 years or so. She graduated from the 3 year professional tourist guide school and continued in her field. She and I have, from time to time, a few tourists that we guide to the local healers. Many of them wish to partake in the 100’s or years old Ceremonies, many come with illnesses that occidental medicine can’t touch. Many leave completely healed physicall and many leave with a re-newed awareness of life, new spirituality,.. as they have have incredible experiences in Ceremony as well as amazing life changing experiences by having been in the jungle with the shamans for a week or two. She also has a travel agency and is Sabre fluent, on two computers she can see every flight in the world and cost, book the tickets, etc.. So instead of waiting in lines, just come on over to her office at Morona 531 or call it in for a quote. 224987
For years her company was exporting medicinal plants all over the World, phytosanitario permits, CITES permits, etc. all in place. A few years ago my son from the States came to visit for two weeks but loved Iquitos so much that he stayed for 7 months. He also was introduced to folk loric medicine and really took a liking to it. He decided that he would like to distribute the plants just like the other 100 or so companies do in the States, Canada and Europe so to help him get started, he was shipped up a large selection of medicnal plants to his home outside of Atlanta. He was staying with my ex-wife, an attorney for the EPA. When the shipment arrived, a SWAT team came behind it. The warrant said to seize the plants, go into the house and seize the lab and take the computer also where the formula would be found on how to extract DM T. There was no lab, no formula of course. No arrests were made. Our attorney in Sacramento told us to just let it go, obviously a mistake and that something more interesting would come across the prosecutors desk soon. So we did that. I also phoned the journalist Peter Gorman and asked him to check into this as the University here in Iquitos as well as many other Peruvian businessmen have been shipping out the same plants for years, all permits in tact. Frankly this was the reason for getting in the medicinal plant business to begin with because we saw others doing it successfully here in Iquitos, Pulcallpa, Cuzco, etc..not to mention Brazil and Ecuador. Peter phoned the Atlanta division and when he asked why they had just illegally seized legal plants, he was told this..”I know they are legal but they shouldn’t be. By the time Mr. Shoemaker gets them back, it’ll cost him 50 grand in legal fees and I guarantee that I will store them in such a way that they will be ruined when he gets them.” He recorded that information.
We continued to live here and my son in the States was not bothered, 911 came around and that was a nightmare for everyone. In the meantime we began entertaining ourselves on Thursday nights by playing poker with Glenn Earls, Papa Dan, me, Gerald and Ryan from time to time. Glenn Earls later passed away returning from his work in Africa. He had picked up a really bad case of Malaria. We miss that man, he was kind and funny and had just married a woman from Iquitos and was in the middle of constructing their dream home. One night while playing, I received an emergency call from my family in Tennesse stating that my Mother was in the hospital and dying from cancer. Glenn’s wife knew a travel agent and quickly got me a ticket to fly out the next day. I’ll never forget it as it was April 1st. Upon arrival in Miami, I was arrested from a warrant that had been issued in Janurary. Spent one month in Federal clubhouse in Miami and then two weeks in Atlanta State. This was really a terrible place, something you see in the movies. The another two weeks in County till I was released on bail, ankle bracelet and random drug tests. Two days after they arrested me, I was standing in front of the judge when my attorney informed me that my Mother just passed away. I would have made it to her hospital bedside. I paid my bond, 50 grand full cash and my brother and wife picked me up and drove me to Tennessee where I stayed in my Mother’s house for a year. I was living there with her second husband, Charlie. He is the minister of the church across the street from my Mother’s house. You see, my Mother and Father divorced when I was three and I saw my Father, Jack B. Smith, maybe three times in my life. He’d drive over from North Carolina and take me, my sister and brother out for an ice cream cone. He was a professional baseball player and I appreciate him for getting his talents, my brother too.. he’s even better than me. Had he stayed together with her, no doubt my brother and I would have turned pro. When my Mother re-married, as a wedding present, I went through the courts and legally changed my name to her maiden name - Shoemaker. My brother and sister thought I was a bit strange to do this but years later they told me they wished they had done the same. You see, my brother Gary Smith as two sons and their last name is Smith. They’ll have children and their last names will be Smith. My children here in Iquitos have Shoemaker. When my son in the States was born, my Mother hadn’t remarried yet so he had the name Smith as well. Later, I put him together with my lawyer in Kentucky and his name was legally changed to Shoemaker. Hope that explains the name game. My Mother really appreciated it and when my Uncle died, she asked me to use the name Tommy now as that was her brother and she dearly loved him AND my middle name is Thomas. I didn’t do that, never regretted it, too confusing anyway.
I spent a year in the States on that ankle bracelet, paying 130 dollars a month so they could monitor me. The pre-trial officer dropped by occassionally and took a urine sample, never found anything of course because I don’t use drugs, not even marijuana. A rum and coke is fine with me so perhaps those of you out there that have been pointing your finger at me in such a nasty way might want to buy me one. I hold no grudges, do you?
At the first pre-trial hearing, the judge walked into the room, sat down and glared at the prosecutor and said “You want to tell me what I am doing here? It’s my understanding that dmt is illegal only in synthetic form and has nothing to do with it occuring naturally in plants! Your warrant said there would be a lab in the house and there wasn’t one, said the forumla would be found on the computer and it was not! So tell me, were the plants shipped in legally to begin with?” and the prosecutor said “Well, hmmmm….. yes, Your Honor, they were.” The judge told us to take two weeks and then show him that they were shipped in legally. It all should have been over then, but it wasn’t. There was brief after brief, etc. because this has never happened before and the laws are so confused. Neither the prosecutor nor the defense nor the judge could determine if this was legal or not. However, the Peruvian government officially issued statements that it was a legal shipment and even pointed out that it must be legal in the States becaue there are so many internet companies opening selling the products and they have been for years and even gave my defense a list of many Peruvian companies that had been shipping the same thing to the States for much longer.
After a year of painting houses, sanding decks, doing whatever I could do so that I could send funds here to my wife and two children… oh yes, I have a 9 year old son and an 8 year old daughter… On April 1st, one year exactly from the day I was arrested in Miami, the pretrial officer called me to inform me that I no longer had to wear the ankle bracelet, I could cut it off. How nice. 5 minutes later he called and said ‘Oh, I forgot to tell you. The order also says that you no longer have any travel restrictions! Where are you going to go?” And of course I said, “Peru to be with my family.” He said, Ok, just tell me where you are from time to time.” I bused myself over to Texas, to the house of the journalist Peter Gorman and was with Peter and his family for two weeks, bought my ticket to Peru and told Peter to listen in on the extension as I phoned the pre-trial officer and informed him that I was flying out to Lima and didn’t want to have any problems in the Airport. He instructed me to go, that I had no travel restrictions and there would be no problems. I flew to Iquitos, quite an emotional scene with my wife and two children as it had been a year without them. 5 days later my attorney phoned saying that the prosecutor had been before the judge telling her that I had left the USA illegally without a passport thru Mexico so I had to fax up my passport, copy of my ticket. Later the prosecutor called for a hearing for me to go before the Judge and expain why I was in Peru. The court date was 4 days away. It was now the middle of July and I checked on tickets and there were none. ASked how much it would cost if there was one and was quoted at $3,500 dollars, money which I did not have anyway. So I missed that court date and the prosecutor had me declared a fugitive. Then the prosecutor tried to get the judge to hand over my bond. The judge refused, stating that it was obvious to her that someone had told me that I could come here.
April 1st has since become a really weird day for me. Last year on April 1st a huge grapefruit sized cyst exploded, just under my bladder. This year was uneventfull… but I was really being careful. April Fools Day! Which is not to say that what I have told you above is in that category, quite the opposite.
And as far as being accused of having made ayahuasca that almost killed people? Well, that’s another long story but suffice to say that this is complete bullshit. As well, I have never sold ayahuasca here to anyone.
So as much as I try and stay neutral about the golf course dilemna, it really makes it difficult for me to side with anyone, especially when I know for a fact that many of the things that are really vehemently said about people here in Iquitos are complete lies. As far as Gerald having bragged that he somehow turned me in? Well, that’s probably true that he said it. We know how Gerald likes to bragg. I have no doubt that he called the DEA to inform them that I was flying to my Mother’s bedside in Tennessee, hoping to be with her before she died. That’s as far as that gets. And do I hate Gerald for this? No, I don’t. Why? Couple of reasons. Gerald just can’t help himself primarily and I just don’t have the time or emotional energy to put toward that. Iquitos is a small town and while it’s not easy for others on here to get over things, I have learned how to do that. Wish only that all of us could.

Shawn, where have you been all this time, playing golf? I sent you emails months ago asking you to comment on this blog. Mike asked you to help us. What took you so long? Let’s work together.
Our golf club has been stolen and we are going to take it back. We need you golfers to step up and shoulder some responsibility. Those shoulders are not just for carrying golf bags.
Now listen, there is no doubt we are going to take the club back from mayeaux, richards, and andrews. We hear they “own” the club, and you golfers don’t own shit. Oh, 1/15th of a share of a mower that belongs to all of us 60 original investors.

It was sad you had to tell your life story to defend yourself on acusations of wrong doing. I am glad you did so I understood. When we only hear one side of the story we have a tendency to belive it. Now if only Gerald and Adam would tell there side of the story. They don’t return emails from none of us. Alan, I consider you one of the most likeable persons in Iquitos (when your sober). But nobody in there right mind would hate Gerald for what he did to you. They would simply ……..Gerald. Your fricken crazy to let that go. He kept you from your family for over a year and cost you thousands of dollars for no known reason. Your fricken crazy.

Rather, I pointed out my thoughts on rumour and innuendo. At this point, I see the emotion involved in this whole issue and I realize that rationality cannot prevail so I will refrain from further comment. It is easier to criticize and fight than to reconcile and compromise as the tone of the many comments attest to.
Bill, I really appreciate reading the informative aspects of the various bloqs like your comments on the water levels, bird, fishing, etc.

My job is not to sweep the streets clean of everyone that ever broke the law. I am not the moral police. My job is to get the Amazon Golf Club back in the hands of the of the founding investors, where it belongs. I will contact the person that made the comment that was removed as soon as I post this.

I have seen that there seem to be valid points on each side of this situation,… and so I hereby prefer to put my membership in suspension. I neither belong or don’t belong.
I then reserve the right to make my decision, if I want to be in this shithouse, or not.

Below is the constitution of the of the illegal club set up by Gerald Mayeaux, Adam Andrews, and Ryan Richards, after the Amazon Golf Club was stolen. You will see that this club was set up with capital derived from the value of the Honda Tractor Mower that was the property of the illegally dissolved Amazon Golf Club. This proves that the the assets of our club, the one you all contributed into have been stolen and the ownership transferred to the new club, of which we have no part.

The constituted company’s name is “AMAZON GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB S.A.”, the same that can also use the abbreviated name “AMAZON GOLF S.A.”
ARTICLE 2.- ABOUT THE OBJECT OF THE COMPANY
The company circumscribes its activities to sports in general, and exclusively its primary activity the practice of golf.
Also, the company is able to acquire and to enter into businesses, to buy, to rent and/or to acquire concessions,
to import and to export, to perform other attached or related activities, and in general, to perform all such actions, contracts, operations that the Peruvian laws allow; and that additionally the shareholder’s meetings agree to perform in accordance with the company’s aims.
ARTICLE 3.- ABOUT THE ADDRESS OF THE COMPANY
The address of the company for legal aspects and pertinent taxes is in the city of Iquitos, specifically on 433 Pevas street of this city, distrit of Iquitos, province of Maynas, Loreto Region; the company can set branches and/or offices in other places of the country and abroad.
ARTICLE 4.- ABOUT THE TIME OF DURATION OF THE COMPANY.
The time of duration of the company is undetermined and it shall begin its activities and operations starting the date of its registration at the Public Registry.
SECTION II.- ABOUT THE SOCIAL STOCK AND ABOUT THE SHARES.
ARTICLE 5.- ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF THE SOCIAL STOCK AND OF THE SHARES.
This company is constituted with a social stock registered and paid in its totality of S/.13,305.00 (thirteen three hundred and five with 00/100 Nuevos Soles), comprised of a Honda lawnmower valued at S/.13,305.00 (thirteen three hundred and five with 00/100 Nuevos Soles), owned (co-owned) by all the shareholders, distributed pursuant to the fourth clause of the social contract of these articles of constitution.
ARTICLE 6.- The shares represent aliquot parts of the social stock, every one of them have the same face value and provide the right to vote. They are regulated by the provisions established in the articles where they are applicable, comprised in Book II of the Third Section, Title I and II of the General Law of Companies, Law 26887.
ARTICLE 7.- ABOUT THE INDIVISIBILITY OF THE SHARE.
Shares are indivisible. The co-owners of shares must designate a single person to exercise the member’s rights and they respond mutually to the company of any liabilities derived from their capacity as shareholders. The designation shall be made through a signed letter duly notarized, subscribed by co-owners that represent more than fifty per cent of the rights and shares over the co-owned shares.
ARTICLE 8.- ABOUT THE OWNERSHIP OF THE SHARE.
The company shall consider as owner of the share anyone who appears as such in the registry of shares.
ARTICLE 9.- ABOUT THE CERTIFICATES AND OTHER FORMS OF SHARE REPRESENTATION.
The shares issued by the company, any type, are represented by certificates. The requirements and data needed by the certificate of shares, whether they are temporary or definite shall be those that established in article 100 of General Law of Companies. Law 26887.
ARTICLE 10.- ABOUT THE TRANSFER OF SHARES BY SUCCESSION
The acquisition of shares by hereditary succession confers to the heir or legatee the condition of partner. However, the rest of the shareholders shall have the right to acquire in a preferential manner from the heir or
legatee the shares of the deceased shareholder within 30 (thirty) days after the date of notification of the death of the above mentioned shareholder. The value of the shares shall be the same they had at the moment of death of whoever was owner of the same.
In the case that many shareholders would like to acquire these shares; they shall be distributed among all of them pro rata of their participation in the social stock.
ARTICLE 11.- ABOUT THE PREFERENTIAL ACQUISITION RIGHTS
In the case that any of the shareholders pretends to transfer totally or partially his/her shares; he/she must communicate this decision to the Shareholder’s General Meeting in order for the shareholders, within a period of 30 days, to exercise their right to acquire preferentially.
SECTION III. ABOUT THE ORGANS OF THE COMPANY
CHAPTER I.- ABOUT THE SHAREHOLDERS’ GENERAL MEETING.
ARTICLE 12. THE GENERAL MEETING
The Shareholders’ General Meeting is the supreme organ of the company. The shareholders constituted in the duly called General Meeting and with the corresponding quorum, decide, by the majority established by the General Law of Companies – Law 26887, the matters of its competence.
All the shareholders including the dissidents and those that do not take part in the meetings are subject to the agreements adopted there by the General Meeting.
ARTICLE 13. ABOUT THE POWERS OF THE MANDATORY ANNUAL MEETING
The General Meeting must meet at least once a year within the three months after the end of the economic period.
Its purpose is:
1. To make a pronouncement about the company’s management and the economic results of the previous period expressed in the financial statements of that period.
2. To decide about the application of the profits, if there were any.
3. To decide about the other matters that pertain to it according to the bylaws and about any other matter determined in the official announcement.
4. The others contained in the General Law of Companies – Law 26887.
ARTICLE 14. OTHER POWERS OF THE GENERAL MEETING.
Apart from the Mandatory Annual Meeting, Extraordinary General Meetings can be performed when it is convenient for the interests of the company in order to deal with the following subjects:
1. Modify the Company’s Bylaws
2. Increase or decrease the social stock
3. Issue liabilities
4. To agree about the expropriation, in a single action, of assets which accounting value exceeds 10% of the company’s capital.
5. To order investigations and special audits, and
6. To agree to the transformation, fusion, division, reorganization and dissolution of the company, as well as to decide about its liquidation.
7. To grant special and general powers to the persons its judges convenient.
8. To decide in the cases in which the Law or the Bylaws provide its intervention in o any other action that requires the interest of the company.
9. To designate an/or to subrogate the managers of the company.
ARTICLE 15. PLACE FOR THE MEETING
The General Meeting shall take place at the company’s address. It can also take place in a different address with the unanimous agreement of the shareholders.
ARTICLE 16. ABOUT THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SHAREHOLDERS’ GENERAL MEETING.
The Shareholders’ General Meeting shall be announced according to what is established by the General Law of Companies – Law 26887.
The announcement for the mandatory General Meeting shall be performed with an advanced notice not less than 10 day prior to the date set for it to take place. In the case of other meetings, the announcement shall take place with an advanced notice of no less than three days.
ARTICLE 17. ABOUT THE UNIVERSAL MEETING.
Even thou what is provided by the previous article, the General Meeting shall be considered announced and shall be validly constituted to discuss any matter, and to reach the corresponding agreements provided the shareholders that represent the totality of the shares registered with right to vote are present and that they unanimously accept the meeting and the matters to be dealt in it.
CHAPTER II. ABOUT THE MANAGEMENT
ARTICLE 18. ABOUT THE GENERAL MANAGEMENT
The company shall have a General Manager, being able to have one or more managers. The duration of the General Manager’s office is for a period of one year. This period can be extended. The General Manager is responsible before the company, the shareholders, and third parties for damages and harm done because of failing to comply with his/her duties, fraud, abuse of faculties, and serious negligence.
ARTICLE 19. ABOUT THE GENERAL MANAGER’S FACULTIES.
The General Manager is the executive of all the agreements and/or policies established or adopted by Shareholders’ General Meeting without needing a power of attorney; whether by other public deed or by agreement he/she has the complete civil, judicial, commercial and administrative representation of the company.
